I have been given this product as part of a product review through the Chronic Illness Bloggers network. Although the product was a gift, all opinions in this review remain my own and I was in no way influenced by the company.
I am not a big reader but when I was given the opportunity to read this book I jumped at the chance. Anything to do with chronic illness and pain is of interest to me. I found this book so interesting I literally read it all in one sitting! By reading this book Jaime made me feel like I wasn’t alone and it was lovely of her to tell her personal story to show others that they aren’t alone. She portrays herself as a very personable and relatable individual whose book I thoroughly enjoyed reading and will keep to one side to refer back to.
I would recommend this book to anyone with a chronic/invisible illness or someone who has a family member with one. To be honest I would recommend it to anyone that wants to better their life both physically and mentally. It is packed full of information backed up by scientific research. It is wonderful to see Jaime has taken the time to back up her information with studies to prove her ideas do actually work. This book has taught me a lot, I had never heard about the ACE study untill reading this book. You will see what the ACE study is all about when you read this book. It is very informative relating to chronic illness.
The book follows a structure called EDRM (Eliminate, detoxify, rebuild and maintain). The Eliminate section is very informative about the dangers of certain food relating to specific illnesses. It advises about cooking methods that should be avoided and alternatives to use in place of them. It tells you about ingredients to stay away from and lists all names that these specific ingredients may come up under.
The detoxify section is full of ideas that can be used by individuals. There is an amazing juice recipe along with ingredients and how they are beneficial to ones health. There are several detoxifying bath ideas which are very detailed and explain which illnesses wouldn’t go well with each type of bath. Apparently writing about one’s life is very beneficial for detoxifying your mind. As a blogger myself, reading this was a lovely. I’m glad I can actually say I am already detoxifying my mind by writing about my struggles. Also that crying is okay, it’s lovely to see this. No matter how many people say that it is still great to see especially with scientific studies behind why.
The rebuild section is full of several options to choose from for different types of people. These are wrote in great detail by Jaime. The maintain section praises you for getting this far which is wonderful. I thoroughly enjoyed the book and will be using it as a little guide to help improve my life. I may not follow all of the advice but by following some hopefully I can see a positive impact on my health both mentally and physically.
